Executive Director: Transforming Newark’s Youth through Visionary Leadership Initiatives

Kaleena Berryman has a rich and extensive career dedicated to leading community organizations, advocating for change, and spearheading transformative youth development initiatives across Newark. Her impactful journey to leading Newark Youth Career Pathways (NYCP) unfolded
after only two years in the role of program director, which left an indelible mark on students and significantly contributed to the organization’s growth. Prior to her time at NYCP, Kaleena served as the Director for the Abbott Leadership Institute (ALI) at Rutgers University-Newark. During her tenure at ALI, she led pioneering programs such as the Youth Media Symposium (YMS) and the New-Ark Leaders of Health in collaboration with Mayor Ras Baraka’s Office of Youth and College Affairs.

Her visionary initiatives extended to programs like Parents as Partners in Extended Learning Time, empowering families, and high school students. Notably, she guided Newark high school students to conceptualize, establish, and lead Youth Media Symposium (YMS) College Success Centers throughout the city.

These centers stand as beacons of support, providing invaluable, free readiness assistance to Newark’s students and families. Ms. Berryman’s legacy is rooted in her commitment to providing innovative and effective pathways for the city’s youth. Her leadership and tireless efforts in creating transformative educational opportunities have not only impacted individual students but have also significantly enriched the entire Newark community.
