Youth Operations Director: Pioneering Opportunities and Pathways to Empower the Youth of Newark
For over 15 years, Kimberly Brown has been a trailblazer in precollege programming within the heart of Newark, guiding more than 750 middle and high school students to chart their paths toward higher education and rewarding careers. While Kimberly hails from Rahway, New Jersey, her roots are firmly connected within Newark after graduating from Rutgers University—Newark and becoming a longstanding southward resident. At Rutgers, Kimberlys transformative journey began with a course titled “Education and Social Change,” which sparked a fervent passion for advocacy and creating educational opportunities for the city’s youth. In her previous role as manager of the Rutgers Future Scholars-Newark
(RFS) precollege program, Kimberly played a pivotal role in providing direct support to first-generation students from 8th through 12th grade.
Her efforts led to increased college enrollment, retention, and graduation rates among participating scholars. Kimberly’s contributions to curriculum development, data management,
and annual recruitment were instrumental in elevating RFS into a model program, replicated
across numerous universities throughout the United States.
In her current role as the Director of Youth Operations at Newark Youth Career Pathways (NYCP), Kimberly continues her mission by offering guidance and support in program
operations, administration, and communication for the NYCP team. She champions initiatives that foster academic and interpersonal growth, coupled with readiness for college and careers through experiential learning, exploration workshops, and invaluable mentoring opportunities.
